Data Management Admin Tool
Use the data management tool to manage featured newsletters for the UPMC Dynamic Preference Center.
Access to the Flying Cork x UPMC back end data management tool is currently granted via email.
Manage Featured Newsletters
Visit the data management tool (via the access URL provided in an email) and navigate to Manage Newsletters and Categories > Featured Newsletters.
The file below creates the functionality to add, edit, delete, and display all of the current featured newsletter within the back end data management tool. Data manually populated into the back end then gets pulled into the front end of the UPMC Dynamic Preference Center. This data populates the “Featured Newsletters” section.
- File path: My Landing Pages > Profile Center > Dynamic Preference center > Back End > AJAX Manage Preference Featured Subscriptions - Edit Landing Page
The data from this section gets recorded in a data extension called Featured_Subscriptions, located here:
Add Featured Newsletter
Click “Create Featured Newsletter + Category Pair” to add a new featured newsletter. These additions will immediately be reflected in the preference center. Featured Newsletters are determined by the client and may be subject to change. Only add newsletters that are currently considered “featured.”
- Select a Category: Featured newsletters should be assigned to the "All Categories" category. Choose "All Categories" from the drop down menu.
- Select a Newsletter: Choose the newsletter that you would like to assign as "featured" from the pre-populated drop down menu. The data extension name associated with this newsletter is what shows in the data table.
- Sort Order: The order in which the featured newsletters will be displayed. This functionality is not currently being utilized. Enter "1" for now.
Edit/Delete Featured Newsletter
Click the “Edit” button to the right of the featured newsletter to make changes to it.
When featured newsletter data is edited using the data management tool, the record in the Featured_Subscriptions data extension will also be updated, and changes are immediately reflected in the preference center.
Click the “Delete” button to the right of the featured newsletter to delete it.
When featured newsletter data is deleted using the data management tool, the record in the Featured_Subscriptions data extension will also be deleted, and the newsletter will no longer be available under “Featured Newsletters” in the preference center.
Manage Newsletters
All available newsletters added to the data management tool populate the “Select a Newsletter” drop down menu on this page. If the newsletter you are looking for is not in the drop down menu, it may still need to be added to the data management tool. Click here for information on managing newsletters.
Preference Center Interface
On Page Load
When the page loads, we pull the records from the Featured_Subscriptions Data Extension.
While we loop through All of the Available_Publications, we check the Featured_Subscriptions data extension to see if we can match data_extension_name to a record.
If we do find a match for data_extension_name, that means it’s a featured subscription. If not, you guessed it, it ain’t.
If the current subscription is a Featured one, we set the is_featured field to true and add the subscription to the PreferenceCenterData.FeaturedSubscriptions data object with the category name and sort order (if applicable).
When we start to loop through the alphabatized de_title_pairs array, we check for the is_featured field, if true we run the
AddToFeaturedSubscriptions(data_extension)function and pass inthe data extension name.
Relevant Functions
AddToFeaturedSubscriptions(deName)
Creates a DOM object in the Featured Subscriptions section and adds an event listener to the toggle switch. The data extension name is passed in as deName and we use that to look up the title, description, image url, etc. in the PreferenceCenterData.DataExtensions object.
