Data Management Admin Tool
Use the data management tool to add, edit, and delete all available preferred hospitals for the UPMC Dynamic Preference Center.
Access to the Flying Cork x UPMC back end data management tool is currently granted via email.
Manage Preferred Hospitals
Visit the data management tool (via the access URL provided in an email) and navigate to Manage Hospitals > Preferred Hospitals.
The file below creates the functionality to add, edit, delete, and display all available preferred hospitals within the back end data management tool. Data manually populated into the back end then gets pulled into the front end of the UPMC Dynamic Preference Center. This data populates the “Preferred Hospital” drop down menu within the “My Information” profile section.

The data from this section gets recorded in a data extension called Available_Preferred_Hospitals, located here:
Add Preferred Hospital
Click “Add Preferred Hospital” to add a new hospital. These additions will immediately be reflected in the preference centers’ “Preferred Hospital” drop down in the “My Information” section.
- Hospital Name: The name of the hospital. This should be a "friendly name" as it will be visually displayed in the "Preferred Hospital" drop down menu in the preference center.
- Hospital Order: The order in which hospitals will be displayed in the "Preferred Hospitals" drop down menu. This functionality is not currently being utilized. Enter "1" for now.
Edit/Delete Preferred Hospital
Click the “Edit” button to the right of the hospital to make changes to it.
When preferred hospital data is edited using the data management tool, the record in the Available_Preferred_Hospitals data extension will also be updated, and changes are immediately reflected in the preference center.
Click the “Delete” button to the right of the hospital to delete it.
When preferred hospital data is deleted using the data management tool, the record in the Available_Preferred_Hospitals data extension will also be deleted, and the hospital will no longer be available in the “Preferred Hospitals” drop down menu in the preference center.

On Page Load/Generating the Dropdown
Preferred Hospitals are only referenced in the profile section of the Dynamic Preference Center.
When the page loads, we pull records from the Available_Preferred_Hospitals Data Extension. Then we start to loop through the records returned by the DE with AMPscript, and then use it to populate the dropdown for preferred hospitals in the profile section.
Relevant Functions
Nothing regarding Preferred Hospitals is manipulated by JavaScript. Everything is handled via AMPscript, with the exception of submitting/updaing profile data, which is handled via this function
updateProfile()
This function concatenates a query string based on the data filled out in the profile section form, and then submits an XMLHttpRequest with the action of updateProfile to update the consumer profile. The consumer profile data is stored in Shared Items>Shared Data Extensions>Preferences_Consumer>Consumer_Master_DE
